God can at times speak to us in very mysterious ways and through the most unlikely of means. Remember Balaam and his talking donkey? That being said, God spoke to me through His Holy Spirit while watching a reality TV show about the mining of gold placer deposits in the Yukon Territory of Canada. A nugget of truth, pardon the pun, which God brought to my attention, was the amount of ground and overburden these miners had to clear and process in order to extract relatively small amounts of gold.
There are times in life that we find ourselves frustrated by circumstances that rival even the most heavyhearted Country and Western song. Now praise God that we do not have to play the song of life in reverse to get it all back. We have the Holy Spirit as a helper to guide us through the challenges, tests and various trials, that we may gain character, wisdom and a testimony in celebration of God’s Victory in and through us. Winston Churchill famously said; “If you are going through hell, keep going.” Just like the miners, we should not allow ourselves to give up just because the going got a little bit tough. The challenge to find and mine this precious metal is enormous, daunting and intimidating, but the gold is infinitely more valuable than the ground that surrounds it. Getting to the gold is a great reward, but it demands patience, dedication, hard work and time to extract. It is for that very same reason that we are to keep going in spite of our difficulties, and because the reward for faith and faithfulness far outweighs the struggles we face on the road to success.
In Hebrews 13:5-6 (AMP) the Bible says; “Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor leave you without support. I will not, I will not, I will not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let you down [relax My hold on you! Assuredly not!].” God knows every one of our needs, He even knows the needs we know nothing about. Never give up, never let go and never surrender hard earned gains, for it is written; “My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19 (NKJV).
